The machine knows I exist. Time to get out!

I came on here to work on a post that will go up later, probably tonight, and I noticed an uptick in the little graph that tracks visits. So, innately curious, I went to see what was up since I haven't gotten any more comments than usual.

Now I'm just totally confused:

1,574 views on my Surah al-Baqarah post. What? Why? Where are these people coming from?

  1. Sometimes it reads weird numbers. It told me at one point on my old blog that I had twice the amount of visits on one post then I did total for the blog. It gets confused

    1. *pokes it* Maybe that's it. Though all the numbers seem to make sense, just they're all really high for my blog. But that would be nice. It's just a fluke! No one linked to my blog and there aren't people talking about me that I don't know about! *huddles back into her paranoid hole*

Also, maybe people are just searching for the title, Surah al-Baqarah, and getting my post on Google.

  2. Did you check the more detailed stats, like traffic sources? Usually when I notice I've gotten a lot of visitors (though never that many!) I find they all came from some other much more popular blog or community where I was linked for whatever reason. My posts on Buffy and a book series I like both got a bunch of hits from links in LJ fan communities, and when I went to check it out in both cases it was a big post of basically everything anyone had written about them in the past week. Thanks to Google alerts, I think that sort of thing happens a lot now.

    1. It's for these very reasons that I don't even bother looking at my blogger stats. I use sitemeter and StatCounter, which I've found to be far more useful for tracking measures.

    2. I checked the stats and they're not helpful. The highest traffic source listed is Google but none of the high count search words have anything to do with the al-Baqarah post and when I googled surah al-baqarah I'm nowhere near the first page of results. And yet according to blogger's stats that post has gotten 168 pageviews today. I'm puzzled.

    1. I've got statcounter going now so that'll sort out my paranoia. :)
