I know that Turkey Day is *way* past, but since I just finished up the last of the leftovers I'm thinking about it. There's a lot of good food that's only put out for T-Day, but my favorite, hands down is the cranberry jelly.
You can get nice, high end cranberry jelly that comes in glass jars and what not. I've even seen some that have chunks of cranberries in them. Fancy schmancy. Woowoo. But for me cranberry jelly will always be the canned stuff.
It pops out of the can and has the ridges imprinted in it. You slice it and it just falls down on the plate, glistening and red and yummy. Sweet, but with that tangy bite of cranberry sourness, you can slice it and pick it up with your fork but then it dissolves in your mouth.
I could, of course, buy it any time of the year and have it. But I won't. Because it's a T-Day food and that's where it shall remain!
The canned stuff really is the best. I have it for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. That goes for most of the "Thanksgiving" foods, actually. My family has them for all those holidays. Well, we're usually finally sick of turkey by New Years and will have something else as the main part, but all the sides. Yummy.

Susanne,
ReplyDeleteI'm just doing my part to spread the love. It's nice - I'm the only one in the family who eats it so I get the whole can to myself. Yay me!
