The sheer, crushing amount of love between Charles and Erik is AMAZING! Even my one friend who went with us who sees slash in *nothing* was like...'Well, they're married, right?' and she hates Moira MacTaggert with a really surprising passion for being all up in their business. Aside from being the epi-tragic love story of Charles and Erik's whirlwind romance, marriage, adoption and then horrible divorce, it's a really fun movie and I think really well done. But mostly, yes, I've been watching it obsessively for the Erik/Charles.
Sadly, I think this means I'm going to have to start looking at X-Men comics again. Apparently Magneto has joined the X-Men? *shrug* If it gives me slash, I won't complain.
Hahaha, yes, he has. :D I'm behind too (on comics, movies, books...), but have been sort of following the storyline. Or at least I was for awhile there. They've basically just rearranged everything in the past several years. Bring Emma in, kick Charles out, bring Erik in...Fun! Now I'm just waiting for Mystique to join (again) and become the leader.
Were you reading around the time of House of M? Excalibur had a few awesome Charles/Erik scenes, and this wonderful person on lj posted some scans with hilarious commentary. This is the best (imo) and links back to the other two, if you're interested.
I read a summary of the movie on Wikipedia and it made me confused. Is this supposed to be a prequel to the other movies? It sort of seems like it doesn't fit with the flashback in the third. Of course, that could just be because I haven't seen it and Wikipedia summaries, while awesome and helpful, are still not a full experience of the film.
I picked up the latest X-Men comics that they had at the bookstore. I have no clue what is going on, but Erik and Charles seem to be working together, atm.
I have to confess I was never really an X-Men fan. I've always been a DC girl at heart. So I missed the entire House of M storyline, as well as pretty much everything else. Which just means that there are wonderful stories I have yet to read!
Thanks for that link. I'll check it out once I get home.
Okay, the movie is not a prequel. If they're thinking it is, they're wrong. It doesn't mesh with the first three movies, or with the Wolverine movie. At all. I think it's more along the lines of a reboot than anything else. And it's one hell of a lot better than the other X-Men movies, imho anyway! :D Though, watching the other movies through the lens of slash from this movie? The death scene in X3, with Magneto yelling 'Charles!' is much, much sadder!
Yay! :)
ReplyDeleteI still haven't seen First Class. Hoping I will by next weekend.
