Pope Francis I - Habemus Papem!

Cardinal Bergoglio, now Pope Francis I

ps: My Latin is apparently getting better, because before I looked it up I decided that Habemus Papem totally meant, 'We have a Pope!' So there.

  1. Small step in the right direction aka not European. But he is in his 70s :( Hoping for a young one

    1. I honestly didn't expect them to choose a younger man. I keep thinking that they don't think the young Cardinals have matured enough yet. They're probably still shooting paper airplanes at each other during meetings. ;)

  2. Someone said the good thing about older popes is that the papacy shouldn't be as long. Maybe not having a young pope (meaning a potential of 20, 30 years) has that at least as a small plus.

What do you think of this new pope?

    1. I'm going to trust that they're voting not on age but on the best man for the job. Yep.

So far, and he's only been the pope for a day, I like him. I like him more and more the more I learn about him and see what he's done his first day. But I think we have to wait a little longer to see what his pontificate is going to be like.

  3. He spoke softly and gently, and the name Francis is a good one. Had a dream that the pope after Papa Benedict would be called Francis, funny how things happen.

    1. Hi Ann,

Yes, I loved hearing his first speech. He seems like a very quiet, down to earth man.
