The Eldritch Horror Living In My Car

Saturday I had to take my dog to the vet. Routine shots, etc. No big deal, right?

I get there and the parking lot is more full than usual and I wind up parking in a different area from where I usually do. Next to some woods.

Well, I get out of the car and for some entirely *stupid* reason I leave my door open while I go in the back of the car to get Baby out. I get Baby on his leash and unhooked from the seatbelt, close the back door and turn to close my door. To find this:

CLIMBING INTO MY CAR!!!!!!!!!

So I stand there, one hand on the door, wondering if I swing the door really fast, will it catch the spider? And of course, in that hesitation, the damn thing crawls all the way into the car. I got to watch it scurry across my dashboard and then *fold itself* into the defrost vents for the windshield.

AHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm running on the theory that the spider has either crawled out of the car again, or crawled into the engine and died, or just dropped dead or spider related whatevers, because I haven't seen it again, and trust me I've been *looking*. I do not want to see him ever, ever again.

Spiders. Ugh. So. Gross.

Lent!

Ack! How is it almost Lent again already?!?!

Okay. *takes deep breaths* I just realized Orthodox Lent starts...Monday? Monday. Crap!

Orthodox have fasting days all throughout the year. It's not something that I've dealt with thus far. In Roman Catholicism the only *fast* is during Lent. And even that isn't...*waves hands about*....it's not much, restriction wise. No meat on Ash Wednesday or Fridays during Lent. Also, Ash Wednesday and Lenten Fridays are the fast days. So you eat less - only one full meal all day and no snacking between meals. The rest of the week is normal. Obviously, children under 14 and people who have health reasons are exempt from the fast.

Orthodoxy has rules about dairy and I think they give up meat entirely and become vegetarians for two months(ish). No eggs, no alcohol (not that I drink much, but it's an ingredient in things...).

I don't know why I'm suddenly panicking about this. It's not like I have to keep the Orthodox fast or anything. But I've just realized that Lent is coming up and I don't even know the rules! *does crazy Kermit the Frog panic run*

don't mind me. I'll just be over here having a completely unnecessary meltdown

PANICFLAIL!

OH MY GOD! I just had this moment of sheer fucking panic. I accidentally hit some weird combination of keys that just...froze my entire computer while I was in the middle of saving the DF NaNo fic! And there was this whole, SHIT! MY FIC IS GONE AND I CANNOT RECREATE THIS SHIT AT THIS LATE DATE! WHAT THE FUCK UNIVERSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And then I remembered that I was backing up the fic, so it was only the last 2,000 words that would be gone, maybe. Which would be bad enough. And then I restarted the computer and it was only the last two or three sentences, where I hadn't saved yet that were gone.

Lesson of the day: Save as you go, and don't try and type while half asleep.
