I Need A Book Rec: History of the Church

Okay, I've already read The Orthodox Church by Kallistos Ware, and I really enjoyed that. It's an easy read, and very concise.

So now I'm looking for another, more in depth book covering the history of the church. Any good recommendations?

  1. Sorry. Maybe one of your Orthodox friends can help.:)

  2. Susanne,

I asked on an Orthodox forum too. They've given me some recs. :)

  3. Oh good. I didn't want you to feel ignored, but I'm not a great source on book recs on this topic. ;)

Thanks for your comments on the Wineskins posts. I hope you know I wasn't picking on Tradition, but moreso "tradition" such as I described in my one comment directed at you. :)

  4. Heh. Yeah, I only posted it here to cover my bases. :)

I didn't feel like you were 'picking' on anything at all. I misunderstood what you'd said your pastor said, but you corrected me. :) That's part of the flaw of not actually sitting in on the sermons people quote from, is you don't always get everything at first.

  5. Well, it was my fault for not putting it into better context. (That's what the comments are for if people have questions, I guess. :))

My pastor actually picks on Baptists the most. :) He actually likes the Pope and I never hear Catholic-bashing.

I'm glad you spoke up so I could clarify things. Plus it was good to read yours and Carmen's exchange of ideas! :D

  6. I recommend http://www.sjkp.org/ as a book resource. (Search under Church History) I can't think of any other in-depth history titles. You can read so many other locality or saint specific histories. :-)
