*achem*
THE LIGHTS ON THE FRONT OF THE COPIER, *ON* THE PAPER TRAYS MEAN THAT THE COPIER IS OUT OF PAPER. ALSO, THE MESSAGE FLASHING ON THE DISPLAY SAYING 'PLEASE INSERT PAPER IN TRAY ____' MIGHT BE A CLUE.
TURNING IT OFF DOES NOT MAGICALLY MAKE PAPER APPEAR!
STANDING THERE WHEN I TELL YOU 'IT'S OUT OF PAPER' AND STARING AT ME AS THOUGH I AM SPEAKING SWAHILI DOES NOT MAGICALLY PUT PAPER IN IT EITHER!

Smallville S10E02 - Shield
First, just for the record, S.H.I.E.L.D. belongs to Marvel. So don't go there, please.
Also, I am almost a week behind on tv. I've been busy, and also watching the A-Team movie twice since I got ahold of it. What? H-BAMF is distracting.
On to the show!
Hi Lois!
Tomb of Isis? Black Adam? Hmmm...he's really a Captain Marvel villain, and I don't think we have Captain Marvel here, do we?
Michael Shanks! Can't keep you out of Egypt, can we dear? Daniel Jackson, now Carter Hall. Mmmm...you do look good though. Not *quite* so scruffy and unshaven as the last time.
Ack! Cat Grant! I can't stand you already! Oh, that's right, I didn't like you in the comics either...though I do feel bad about what happened with your son.
Is Clark gonna smack a bitch? Sadly, no.
You know, I really can't stand Tess. Or Chloe, for that matter. I hate that they've set her up as WatchTower/Oracle, but she's *not* Oracle, and I don't like her. And she should not be dating Ollie. He's supposed to have a terrible relationship with Black Canary!
Above comment about Carter Halls' scruffiness? Strike that. It was the sand disguising it.
Also, yeah. Carter may beat Lois into a pulp.
Lois is making with the crazy talk. It's scary that she doesn't know that Carter knows, but she's babbling at him anyway. Yep. Get her drunk! *lol* I was never a Hawkman fan, but I do like Shanks' version.
Deadshot? WTF? That was actively hilarious. Cat's look 'seatbelts save lives!' just before her car blows up? Right. Who was that villain?
He has the electronic eye for Deadshot, and the accuracy, but it's the cowboy theme that's throwing me.
And I win the villain lottery yet again! God I am GOOD! But *why* the cowboy outfit? I mean, I get that he can't run around in the red and white body suit from the comics, but cowboy? Is that *really* less conspicuous?
And she's wearing a bulletproof vest.
Who's Godfrey? Inquiring minds want to know. OldLex?
Why would someone on the run, in hiding, become a reporter for a newspaper as big as The Planet is supposed to be? It's a little showy.
Thanks, Carter. Not only are you Hawkman, but Captain Obvious as well! Whatever. Just give me more Michael Shanks! Mebbe shirtless? Mebbe? Please?
Why's she wearing oriental clothes?
Hehehehe....I knew that was coming. Also, please don't make Lois into Shaera or however it's spelled. That makes no sense.
OldLex hired Deadshot?
WHY THE COWBOY THING?
And yet again the villain walks slowly and catches the running girl. Also having managed to her her into the kill zone. It's like magic!
And there's Cat's crush on Clark. Full blown and still INCREDIBLY ANNOYING!
Ooohhh...poison?
Hmmm...girl chick assassin. Who's that. Cheshire?
REALLY? Can it be Christmas this early and Chloe really be dead?
Probably not. My luck's not that good.
Damn and bugger. I was hopeful for a second there.
Oh, Suicide Squad. So much fun.
Not Cheshire. Plastique. I don't know who you are. *looks up Plastique* Cheshire'd be cooler.
Nietzsche also had some serious flaws, dear people.
*giggle* Not even as cool as Kon there, Clark. Jacket fail!
Hey look, it's Kara! Hi Kara! Oooh...bald headed guy in the shadows? Is it...OldLex?! Is Godfrey OldLex? *rewinds a bit* Hmmm...bald guy, but not OldLex.

(Un)Conditional Love
This is going to be one of those muddled posts. Fair warning.
I've been thinking, off and on, about childhoods and people who choose religions that are viewed as stricter and more 'rules based' than say your average Protestant faith.
Candice did a poll post a while back which, while aimed at Muslims specifically I think actually might apply to the wider religious convert base.
The basic fall out is that people who had a 'difficult' or abusive childhood seem to tend to convert and then follow stricter interpretations of their chosen faiths than those who had 'normal' childhoods. Of course that's a broad generalization and I've hardly made an actual scientific study of the matter, and there will always be exceptions to the rules. But in general I think this observation bears out.
And I've been trying to think of why that should be. And I say this as one of those people who proves the rule and not by exception. One might think that a person who grew up in a strict household, unhappy, miserable, beaten down and controlled would choose (once they had a choice) to be free. Not to continue to be restricted with rules, but to do whatever they want. And some do that.
But here's the thing that's occurred to me - we are taught, overtly or subliminally, that all the bad things that happen to us are our fault. If we were better, if we were smarter, if we didn't cry so loud or break that toy or need new things for school *then* our parents would love us. *Then* we would be a good child, and bad things wouldn't happen anymore. From the perspective of adulthood we know that this isn't true, but there are certainly some things that run much deeper than just our minds. It's ingrained knowledge at this point. We are *flawed* and there have to be rules and things that we can do to *earn* the love that we see everyone else getting. Because they're good and we're not.
Subconsciously we feel like we have to do things to earn God's love and we choose faiths and interpretations of those faiths that seem like they offer us that opportunity. I'm not saying that that's what those faiths *actually* teach, of course. I'm saying that I think (at least in part) that that's what goes on in our heads.
People talk about 'unconditional love' and we can lip sync along to it. We understand, in theory, what the words mean. But in practice, in our hearts - the words are meaningless. We have no experience of a love that didn't come with conditions. Conditions that we were never able to live up to. And given that the only way we can understand God is filtered through our human experiences the idea that God loves unconditionally - that the rules aren't there to make us jump through hoops to earn God's love but are there to help us in other ways - never really sinks in fully. We cannot understand it because it's an absolutely foreign concept.

Insanity Runs In My Family
This is my grandmother. She will be turning 80 this month. Guess what she decided she wanted to do for her 80th birthday?
It involves a plane. And parachutes. And jumping.
Tandem, of course.
And here we see the aftermath. She looks rather stunned, doesn't she? :)Now here's a secret.
I wanna do it!
I am *terrified* of heights, but I want to sky dive! So maybe I'm not as scared as I think I am? Whatever. It's now part of my post weight loss plans. :)

Supernatural S06E02 - Two and a Half Men
Grampa Campbell is still creepy, even in the reviews. Just for the record.
Ooohhhhhh...shapeshifters. Always gooey.
More women in refrigerators! You know why it is? Women are so much more vulnerable, culturally, than men. Have a man run screaming through a house, covered in blood, clutching their baby? We will all mock. Have a woman do it? Instant fear and empathy.
Aww........poor baby. Definitely gonna be traumatised.
I remain convinced that the title card MEANS SOMETHING.
Woop. Happy Home is for rent? Where ya'll headed? *desires to reach through screen and pet Dean's head* Woobie.
Oooohhh...it's a *new* Happy Home. Gotcha.
I really do like Lisa.
Mmph. Suave Sammy. You do look good in a suit m'boy.
*sigh* Paranoid Dean is paranoid.
'Baby stew' - not a phrase I ever need to hear again. Thanks.
Shit. Now I want to pet *Ben's* head and smack Dean. He really is Dean's kid, I don't care what you say. Also, Dean, honey, keep the keys to your secret arsenal somewhere the curious boy cannot find them.
*sigh* Seriously, Dean can visit on alternate weekends. Cause I like him and Lisa, which is freaky coming from me for this show. I do not like girls with my boys on this show! But I like Lisa.
Dead daddy and mommy, check. Baby?
Here baby baby baby....
You know what Sam? Your floppy hair is a great handhold in a fight. You should cut it.
Oh, hey, guess what? Shapeshifter. In case the flashbacks to shapeshifters hadn't clued you in already.
Maybe this is where we get baby shapeshifter's from? Naw...I think it was mentioned that they all look freaky as kids too....
"I'm out." as he salts the windows and doors. Riiiiiiigggggggggggghhhhhhhhhttttttttttt.
Sammy has a baby! So cute!
Dean is a responsible paranoid person. It's good. Heh. 'no offense, but if you don't walk out that door, I'm going to shoot you!' I really do love Lisa!
Mmm...not the Impala, but the truck. He really does think it's only this one job, doesn't he?
I'm squeeing so hard I think dogs can ear it! Sam and Dean shopping for baby stuff! So freaking awesome! There's totally a fic series based on this. I know I've red it. OMG, just, all of it! Dean crying back at the baby!
Boys, don't be stupid. Yeah, that's what I thought. Laser eyes!
Totally a baby shifter.
He's hummingMetallica! Smoke on the Water. Which is *not* Metallica. It's Deep Purple. Which I did not know til I just googled it. The Deep Purple bit, not the not-Metallica bit. I knew Smoke on the Water was not Metallica.
Wait, wait, which one said Bobby and which one said John? *rewinds* Dean said Bobby, Sam said John. Okay. Back to the show!
Dean's good with kids!
He totally is your kid Dean. Ben, not shifter-baby.
You know, the lighting is back to normal now. I may have been wrong about the dream stuff from ep one. Maybe the lighting was just...dream like because the Happy Home was a fantasy that couldn't ever really last?
Can't both go. Baby. *chokes* Whiskey to calm the baby. No, no, nothing wrong with Dean's parenting skills at all.
Baby shifters. I'm telling you, the shifter is running around impregnating women and then killing the parents and stealing his offspring. Baby. Shifters.
Dean's relationship with the Magic Fingers is slightly disturbing.
EEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
That's why 6 months. That's when the powers kick in.
Poor baby! I think shifting hurts.
Hey, it's a shifter cult/colony. Wanna bet?
Don't take the baby to Samuel. Really. You don't know them as well as you think you do, Sammy.
And now we're at the Campbell Compound. I am not worried about this at. all.
No! Do not hand him over to creepy not-grandpa!
Dean does not believe your shit.
Ooooooooooohhhhhhhh....Sam needs to learn to keep his mouth shut. Thou shalt not tell Dean's secrets to the 'family'. Wait, wait, we're fostering out the shifter baby to creepy Christian?
How's the shifter Samuel? What? Whoops. There goes Mark. It was 'Mark', wasn't it?
And now we've caught an adult shifter. We're expanding our- oh, wait, no. Not so much.
Bobby's panic room is nicer.
Heh. Shifter strength!
Why's it keep shifting?
To be fair, the shifter didn't just kill everyone. Nice.
Alpha monsters?
I don't think it was Sam's plan, but I think it was Samuel's. Oh, don't prove me wrong Sammy.
Who's he talking to? Who's in charge? Samuel's got a boss. The thick plottens.
Lisa's sending him back to the fight! And yes, he really does want Happy Home. He just doesn't know how to have it, and he never will. I'm sorry about that. But Dean was broken in very specific ways by his childhood and everything that's happened. He *wants* Happy Home, but he can't have it full time.
See? Alternate weekends!
Deansephone!
Oh, god, the Impala sequence! Shut up! I think I might be actually purring. S'cuse me, I'll be in my bunk.
Preview: Cas! Sorry, sorry, let me do that properly: CAS! Also, yadda, something, plagues, etc. Whatever. CAS!

Fashion Advice Needed!
So, I have a wedding to attend on October 10. Yes, the wedding date is 10/10/10. The bride jokingly said it was the only way the groom was going to remember their anniversary, and it sort of just happened. Anyway. Because I am still losing weight and have no real desire to spend any money on an outfit that I will likely not be able to wear in another couple of months, I am trying to put together something out of my non-work wardrobe.
It's a second marriage for both of them, and an afternoon wedding, so not formal in an insane way at all. Plus, I'm neither *in* the wedding, nor related to either party, so I don't feel the need to go crazy with the fancy.
One outfit I thought might work is the black and white one ya'll've seen before, but I took a new picture:

White top with the black and white skirt. In case you can't tell, the pattern on the skirt is flowers and leaves done in white. I also tried it with a black jacket, but I think the jackets a little much.

This is the only outfit I really thought all the way through. The shoes I was considering are this nice dark metallic blue pair I have, illustrated below:

And for jewelry I was thinking my opal necklace/earring set.
While I was rummaging, I found this red top which I thought might be better with the color, but I really don't think so. Yet I include because of my own fashion impairedness.

And for my last option so far, the same skirt with a black top that I love very much, but haven't ever worn anywhere because, well, I don't go out much and it's not a 'work' top. Now, don't think that I'm stuck on the skirt - I do have other skirts, but I didn't feel like changing into all the different skirts tonight. And I think this one actually looks good with the top.

My Dad says I need a clunky necklace with it, but the only one I own is my amber necklace, and I'm not sure about that both from the fashion side of it, and the fact that it's one of my few real pieces of jewelry, and I'd probably kill someone if something happened to it.
Oh! Bonus points to anyone who spots the change that I've made to myself since the last picture. :)

Jonah '6:5'
No sixth chapter, so we get 1:3:
But Jonah rose up to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. So he went down to Joppa and found a ship Tarshish, paid his fare, and boarded the ship to set sail with them to Tarshish, away from the presence of the Lord.
