The Kinder Report Day 12

Ah, back to the grind stone.

We had an 'easy' day today, because last week they were off, and we're off the weekend after Christmas too, so...

Anyway. We had them all look up their 'birthday verses' in the Gospels. So, you take the month you were born for the chapter, and the day for the verse, and that's your 'birthday verse'. *shrug* I don't know, it was an activity Deb came up with. So we had them look them all up, and write them out. Then, they chose their favorite, and they made cut out fish and wrote that verse on one side of the fish, their name on the other, and decorated. :)

That took up most of the class.

Our word was 'Sacraments', so we briefly went over all of them.

Then, we read the Gospel, which is Luke 3: 1-6 -

'In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar,
when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea,
and Herod was tetrarch of Galilee,
and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region
of Ituraea and Trachonitis,
and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene,
during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas,
the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the desert.
John went throughout the whole region of the Jordan,
proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins,
as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah:
A voice of one crying out in the desert:
“Prepare the way of the Lord,
make straight his paths.
Every valley shall be filled
and every mountain and hill shall be made low.
The winding roads shall be made straight,
and the rough ways made smooth,
and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.”
'

And now, I'm going to go watch Ninja Assassin. Because sometimes, you just need to watch people kicking each other in the head.

  1. Yeah, there's nothing quite like coming home from church after teaching the dear, impressionable little ones and watching people kick each other in the head.

FWIW, my birthday verses are the following. There was none for Matthew since there is no 30th verse in chapter 4.

30Again he said, "What shall we say the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it?

30But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way.

30They came out of the town and made their way toward him

I think I'd pick the last one if I'm just going by that verse alone (no context.) I'd like to think I'd go out of my town to make my way to Jesus. You know...actually follow Him no matter where He went.

  2. Susanne,

Hey, at least I didn't talk about the dismemberments. It's a highly stylized, bloody movie.

Ooohh...I like that. I think out of yours, that choice is best.

    Let's see...

Matthew 6:5 - And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

Mark 6:5 - Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them.

Luke 6:5 - And He said to them, 'The Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.'

John 6:5 - Then Jesus lifted up His eyes, and seeing a great multitude coming toward Him, He said to Philip, 'Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?'

Hmm...I actually think that my pick would be Matthew. The theme of 'apparent' holiness, as opposed to true holiness is an excellent reminder to keep to mind. :)

Now I kind of want to find my 'birthday verse' for every book in the Bible. Why? No idea. I just want to see what they all say. Could take a while....

  3. Your verses are cool and I like the one you chose best, too. Indeed it is a great reminder. That was fun. Let us know if you find some other good birthday verses from the other books of the Bible. Maybe it could become a regular addition to your blog. :)

  5. Yes, and you could make a spiritual application or something IF there were something that struck you as an "aha!" moment as you read it. Or not. Whatever suits your mood at the time. I think it would be a cool Amber meme of sorts. :-)

  8. You two are cracking me up. Hope LK can find her Bible. If not, there is a great website that has a bunch of different versions online. Here's the one I use the most.

Actually it was Deb's idea. I just played along with it. I will look forward to future Amber birthday posts along this line. :)
