lol! considering my mothers absolutely diabolical taste in clothing.... she thinks I look good in LIME GREEN (honest)....
I shudder at the thought of her choosing my life partner for me....
if dating sucks - stop doing it...! Our Heavenly Father is the BEST and most awesome matchmaker I know... wait patiently for His Choice... (ps His Choice might be a bit slow appearing - our Papa is inordinately fussy - so think of it as an opportunity to practice your 'patience skills'.... :0D
Aw, I'm sorry. I agree that God is a great matchmaker. I remember thinking if God wanted me to be single, that was fine. (I wasn't much of a dater.) And the next thing I know, I was invited to a friend's house for a "blind date" though we both knew of each other. Ended up marrying the guy and he's a great person! God knows what we need before we ask. I am excited to see who He has in store for you, Amber!
If you are brave enough to ask for the intercessions of an Orthodox saint, I recommend you ask St. Xenia of Petersburg to pray for God to send you the husband he wants for you.
As long as you have a VERY dedicated chaperone or person who can make sure he's the one, arranged marriage is a wonderful way to go.
Crazy as it sounds, cousins are also a good way, because the family as a whole generally fights for everyone to stay together.
Dating was so hard at 19 for me, so I can imagine how you feel at 27. Trust me, there is light at the end of the tunnel with it, and patience is key. Bad dates won't always be the norm.
I encourage you to visit some of the Christian blogs about it too! Love you!
I'm with Suzanne you can find someone in the most un expected place.
But friends are a good source. as they know you and will be knowledgable as to your "requirements", as in double dating, modesty and Christian values. Then there are no misunderstandings.
Also you could ask an older lady a church. They like nothing better than to make matches. Mark my words. If there are any single men you will know about it
'brave enough'? Now you've got me worried the Orthodox Saints are mean... ;)
Really, though, and this'd probably get me in trouble with some people on both sides of the divide, I don't feel a distinction between Orthodox and Catholic Saints. So I've got no problem asking any of them for assistance.
My friends are no help. Right now they're all from 'before I went insane'. They're the ones who keep hooking me up with people that make me want to laugh and or cry in despair.
I may start hinting at the old ladies at church though. *pokes old ladies gently with the clue stick*
I'm 25, with no future hubby in sight. It can be really frustrating. Especially when I see that most of the people I went to high school with are married, and a lot of them have kids.
I have cats. And a job I hate. (Well, I don't hate the job. I just hate the company I work for.) Too bad my contract isn't up for another year...
Go on a trip. Just before you leave on your trip, you are bound to meet that guy (when you least want to because you are soooooooooo looking forward to your grand adventure and freedom). Then the stupid fella (who happens to be worth a million bucks and all the grand adventures in the world) makes you fall in love with him by falling completely bonkers in love with you. Worked for me, and worked for all of my friends:D Stop looking, just say, Allah (God) send me happiness whatever way you see fit, and it'll happen if it is written. THEN get a good chaperone to investigate the boyos character:D
BTW, I am still on the look-out for some good Christian men for you. One is a missionary I have in mind, but I have to find out what he wants in a woman/expects in a wife:D I don't think you would want to marry a Muslim man because you'd have to raise your children Muslim:P
*nods* I console myself with the knowledge that many of them are miserable in their marriages. Which is mean and wrong, but what I mean by it is, they married the wrong person for the wrong reasons.
There's two good Catholic marriage sites ~ I think one is Ave Maria Singles On-line and the other one has St. Raphael's name I believe!

ReplyDeleteMichelle,
ReplyDeleteI've thought about that, but I've heard some bad things about Ave Maria and some other similar sites...
I know there are going to be bad stories about lots of things but I'm just a little paranoid I guess.
Ahavah,
ReplyDeleteWell, when you put it that way! Lime green, huh?
You're the first person to ever suggest I stop dating. Huh.
I'm not so good with the patient waiting thing...
I'm going to have to think about this. :)
Susanne,
ReplyDeleteI'm taking the suggestion into consideration. At this point I'm sort of disgusted with the whole thing.
Actually, your story reminded me, my mother met her husband after she stopped looking. And he's a wonderful man too!
Also, congratulations to you and your hubby!

Lisa,
ReplyDeleteCousins...ew. Just, I know, I know, but no.
You don't know my cousins...

I will not be them. *nods firmly in conviction*
Pixie,
ReplyDeleteGood advice. :) I'm going on a minivacation in July, so maybe I'll take a trip then, just to test it out. :)
