A Baptist, an Episcopalian and a Roman Catholic/Orthodox sit down and talk about religion and history for ten minutes.

Guess which two agree with each other and which one is the odd man out.

  1. Well, you and I talk and agree on some things, but not all. This sounds like a scenario at work. What did y'all discuss and agree/not agree on? Details, woman!

(I thought this was going to be one of those jokes when I saw the first line. :-))

  2. Yep. Work scenario. Me and the Episcopalian were on the same page.

Let's see...we talked about evolutionary theory, the reality of Adam and Eve as discrete beings vs. symbolic representations, where did Cain's wife come from, the Virgin birth, Muslims and their position on Christ and the Virgin Mary, the fact that the Bible seen as a completely literal work is a new phenomenon and is actually a collection of different types of literature. The fact that the Gospels are not actually identical. They have different perspectives, different emphasis, different stories - though they do of course *share* many of the same stories. Our Baptist participant insisted that they were all identical in the information and emphasis put across. She also thinks that evolution isn't real and that Adam and Eve were real people. And she knows nothing of Muslims and Jews and their religious thoughts.

Historically we were talking about Henry VIII. :)

  3. Ah, I see. I'm sure you enlightened her on all those issues.

Thanks for sharing the details! :)

  4. Not so much, really. It was something of an accidental conversation and we were just talking, going off of this or that. The interesting thing, I think is that it illustrates the generational gap. The Episcopalian and myself are about the same age and we hold a lot of the same opinions and understandings religion wise. The Baptist is actually our grandmothers age and she reflects the understanding of her generation.

  5. Ah, yes, that does make sense. Thanks for sharing all that. I enjoyed it. :)

  6. The Baptist???

Haha. Just teasing my sweet Susie :)

  7. Suroor,

It's fun to tease my big sis Susie, isn't it?
